Approach to Gijón Marina
ENTERING THE PORT BY DAY:
Navigate between the green Sacramento buoy and the red Santa Catalina breakwater buoy (between them there is a navigable channel with a depth of more than 2.5 m and a width of approximately 100 m during the equinox low tide). As you pass, turn to port and enter between the green Fomento buoy and the red Santa Catalina buoy.
ENTERING THE PORT BY NIGHT:
Same as during the day, paying special attention to the buoys.
DRAFT AT LOW TIDE:
At mouth of harbour: 2.50 metres.
At fuel jetty: 1.70 metres.
APPROACH BY DAY:
Coming from the E, in good weather, enter between Las Amosucas (currently marked) and Roca Martín.
In bad weather, and from the N or W in any weather, pass between Las Amosucas and Piedra de la Concha, leaving the Príncipe de Asturias breakwater light buoy on your starboard side.
APPROACH BY NIGHT:
Same as during the day, paying special attention to the buoys.
The port is located 16 M from Cabo Peñas (octagonal prismatic tower, light grey, rising 117.5 m above sea level), lighthouse with 3 flashes every 15 s and a range of 15 M in foggy weather, 4 calls every 60 s. Cabo Torres is located 2 M from the marina (rectangular 2-storey building, octagonal tower, rising 82.1 m above sea level), with a lighthouse emitting two flashes every 10 seconds and a range of 25 M. In foggy weather, the siren emits the letter ‘S’ in Morse code every 30 seconds.
ENTRY BEACON:
Sacramento: green light 360º, regular seconds, 0.3 seconds of flash + 1 second of darkness, and a range of 4 m.
Danta Catalina Dock: red light (high point at end) every 6 seconds for 2 seconds, located on a red-painted column, with a 260º beam, a range of 6.50 metres and a height of 8.55 metres.
Fomento: green light with a 360º beam, 20 seconds every minute, and a range of 3 M (0.4 second flash + 2.6 seconds dark).
Port access lights
Sacramento Beacon: regular green flashes (0.3 seconds + 1 second), range 4 M.
Santa Catalina breakwater: 2 groups of regular flashes of 6 seconds (0.4+0.4+0.4+4.8), range of 6 M.
Fomento curved breakwater: regular green flashes (20 per minute), range of 3 M.
Príncipe de Asturias breakwater: 3 green flashes every 3 seconds, range 6 M.
Counterbreakwater: 3 green flashes every 8 seconds.
Los Pórticos quay: occasional green light (2.5 seconds), range 6 M.
