Gijón Marina: award for 27 years as a Blue Flag location:

Biosphere Certified
Gijón Marina has been Biosphere Certified since 2022. This certification is awarded by the U.N.-associated Responsible Tourism Institute, member of the World Tourism Organisation and founder of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.
Biosphere certification guarantees the proper long-term balance of a destination’s economic, socio-cultural and environmental aspects, providing significant benefits for the organisation itself, society, and the environment.
Receiving Biosphere certification is a reward for the effort made in compliance with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.
SICTED Seal for Commitment to Quality in Tourism
Since 2006 Gijón Marina has held the SICTED seal for “Commitment to Tourism Quality”, an award which certifies compliance with established requirements and recognizes commitment to quality and ongoing improvement, while distinguishing our tourist services above those of our competitors.
X Hempel Award
The Marina’s track record in environmental matters and our plans for the future earned us the 10th HEMPEL AWARD in November 2010. This quality award recognizes efforts made to benefit sailing. Thanks to this project, a book was published on the study of the marina’s flora and fauna with the aim of increasing public awareness about local marine biodiversity and the importance of its conservation.
Imagin Seabin Project in collaboration with Blue Carbon
Gijón Marina is carrying out a waste collection project in collaboration with Imagin Bank and Blue Carbon. This initiative, known as IMAGINE SEABIN, aims to set up a SEABIN plastic suction device in every autonomous community with a sea coast.
Started in Australia in 2017, the Seabin project has collected more than 1,400 tons of plastic from the world’s oceans and seas. Each Seabin is able to collect 1 to 1.4 tons of plastic a year. These devices, placed on docks at ports, use an energy efficient system to suck up floating debris often found in coastal waters.
